Studying dental hygiene

Studying dental hygiene teaches you to deliver dental care as well as covering topics such as patient service and clinical skills. You’ll learn how to scale teeth, polish teeth and apply topical fluoride and fissure sealants throughout your degree. Most courses are accredited by the General Dental Council, which means upon graduation you’ll be able to register with the General Dental Council and start practicing. Most graduates go on to work as dental hygienists. In this job, you’ll be helping patients of all ages care for their teeth and gums. Most dental hygienist roles are within dental practices, but you could also work in a hospital or community dental service.
