Studying pathology

Pathology, sometimes called immunology, is a scientific subject that looks at the causes and effects of diseases. The subject involves elements of biology and medicine, giving students an understanding of how diseases develop and the impact they have on how well the body works. During a pathology degree, you’ll learn how the body defends itself against different diseases and look at how a disease can be diagnosed and monitored, as well as treated and prevented. As well as learning theory on a pathology degree, you may gain practical experience through work placements and case studies in environments like hospitals and pathology labs. Lots of graduates go into further study by doing a master’s or PhD. Possible work areas include scientific research, scientific journalism, teaching and immunology.
