The University of Winchester offers a friendly, compact campus in the historic city of Winchester. Students here benefit from experiencing both campus and city living due to the proximity of the campus to the city centre.
Winchester itself is a quaint city, with a wide range of cafés, restaurants and vintage shops on offer. You can also enjoy the many bars and pubs on offer, and the Student Union offers a range of different nightlife events to suit everyone. The city also has several unique historic sites and beautiful gardens for you to make the most of.
Students at the University of Winchester are also now able to benefit from the new West Downs Centre. This new study centre offers state-of-the-art learning and teaching facilities and the building itself features many elements focused on sustainability. The uni was the first in the UK to secure green finance for campus development, putting this loan towards the building of the West Downs Centre. The uni’s focus on sustainability means students can be sure they’re attending a uni dedicated to ensuring a bright future.
The uni is well-connected, with London accessible in around an hour by train, and Southampton just 15 minutes away by train. The proximity to London means national and international travel via public transport is easy, and the city is on the M3, offering easy access by road.
The university offers over 100 different undergraduate courses across several different academic departments. As well as standard degrees, there are also a few subjects offered as Degree Apprenticeships at Winchester, offering students the chance to get real workplace experience alongside their studies. The university also offers some courses as distance learning programmes.
Most undergraduate degrees at the University of Winchester take three years to complete. There’s also the option of part-time study on some courses, allowing students to balance studies alongside work or family commitments. Part-time undergraduate courses usually last six years.
Some undergraduate courses offer a placement year, or year abroad. These courses usually take four years full-time, or eight years if it’s offered as a part-time course. Some courses only allow students to undertake a placement year if they’re on the full-time course.
The university also offers some degrees with a foundation year for students who may not meet the typical offers, or who aren’t ready to commit to a three-year degree programme. Students who successfully pass their foundation year will automatically progress to the three-year degree programme linked to their foundation course. You may also have the opportunity to switch to a related course.
The entry requirements at Winchester vary depending on the course you’re applying for. Typically, offers at the university are given as UCAS Tariff points. All typical offers are intended as a guide only, and may vary based on individual applications.
Generally, you’ll need to achieve a minimum of 2 A-levels or equivalent qualifications. Qualifications that are considered include BTECs, IB, Scottish Highers and more.
To study BA Accounting and Finance, you’ll likely be asked for 104-120 UCAS points. In A-level grades, this is equivalent to BCC-BBB.
If you’re interested in BA Creative and Professional Writing, you’ll also probably need 104-120 UCAS points.
For BSc Data Science, the typical offer is 104-112 UCAS points, which is equivalent to BCC-BBC at A-level.
The typical offer for BA Drama is 96-112 UCAS points, or CCC-BCC.

The University of Winchester offers an accommodation guarantee for new undergraduates who have made the uni their firm choice before UCAS. To be covered by this guarantee, you must also apply before the deadline. More details can be found on the uni website.
Accommodation will be owned, managed, or approved by the university. You can expect unlimited internet, bills, 24-hour security, cleaning of communal areas, bedroom furniture and contents insurance to be included in your rent. Most rooms are ensuite and you can also hire bike lockers if required.
There are also a small amount of catered rooms for any students who would prefer to have their meals provided. The majority of rooms are self-catered, however, and students will have access to cooking facilities to prepare their meals.
Most accommodations offer contracts between 38 and 44 weeks, but a small number of halls offer longer or shorter contracts.
For any students that don’t want to live in halls, or who can’t live in halls, there are a wide range of opportunities to rent privately in and around the city.

The University of Winchester offers careers advice for life, so alumni can take advantage of the trained career advisers at any time after graduation. The career advisers at Winchester offer a wide range of services. They can help you narrow down your job search, support you in finding employment, strengthen your CV and application skills and teach you interview skills to help you land the job of your dreams.
CareerConnect is the uni’s online careers platform, helping to connect students to jobs. Through this site you can also book one-to-one advice appointments and find out about different employability events happening at the uni. Graduates can also use this service.
The university also offers many different opportunities for learning and development outside of your course. This could be through joining societies, playing on a sports team, participating in a range of university engagement activities, working on-campus or getting experience as a volunteer. All of these opportunities offered by the uni can help you develop your transferrable skills and helps to build up your CV.
The uni also has an Employability Fund, supporting students in various ways to develop their employability. This is available to full-time home/EU undergraduates who meet one of the other eligibility criteria. You can receive support to learn to drive, travel to conferences or work experience, or resit GCSEs.
The university has a wide range of undergraduate scholarships and bursaries available. These are all additional to support provided by the student loans company, and scholarships and bursaries do not need to be repaid.
The university offers financial support to students based on a variety of different criteria. Support may be available due to academic achievement, personal circumstances or household income.
Students with a low household income may be eligible for up to £1,200, while care leavers may be granted up to £6,000. Student carers and estranged students are also eligible for additional support.
For those who excel academically, scholarships of up to £600 are available. Those who excel in music or sport can apply for scholarships worth up to £1,500.
