The course is flexible and block-taught, hence makes it easy to understand and do assignments/assessments well.

Enough teaching hours

For the best aspect, most courses are as anticipated. They reflect and teach you skills required in the work place. However, some do not. Furthermore, the lumping of so many modules and topics as a single course was my worst aspect.

The location is superb as it not too far from City Centre.

The lecturers are always available when you need to ask extra questions, they organize online question and answer sessions in their spare time which is also very helpful for we the students

Professors give enough time for online communication, and the course schedule is too focused.

Some courses are taught with advanced chemical students and they are very much deep and lots of derivations are taught. Also in our website, some information I saw before applying to it was false and incorrect like assessment type, in many modules assessment type is different from what is mentioned on course website

As a PhD student, I have set times for meeting my supervisors and little to no courses to undertake. My meeting times and feedback are all within the time I need them and or sooner, and the commentary from them on my written work is always excellent and pushes me to improve. My research is amazing and my supervisory team is always available, despite the attacks by senior management with risks to their jobs (my first supervisor is at risk of redundancy, as am I as a Teaching Assistant in my main department) because they miscalculated budgets. My work in the museums, archives, and library are all well supplemented. We have amazing, nationally and internationally significant collections which are forming part of my doctorate work and I get to work with. They have not worked to find a solution for the collections or protection of these collections whilst investing mainly in new buildings for science teaching (absolutely needed, but not at the expense of museums and special collections). The university library has funding available (Friends of the Aberdeen University Library [FAUL]) for undergraduates, post-graduate taught/MRes, and Doctoral students to work with the museum and archival collections. The flexibility that has come with a post-pandemic world has meant that no matter what, my supervisions go ahead and my feedback is given for my continuous improvement no matter what. I was quickly put forward to begin working at a TA before receiving funding which helped as I began my studies self-funded and applied to AHRC funding through the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities (SGSAH). During my application for SGSAH funding, my supervisors were there every step of the way helping me to learn how to hone my skills in grant writing and also in how to plan for the various aspects of my PhD, such as timelines, impact, engagement, etc. My hard work (with the support of my incredible supervisory team) paid off as I was awarded both the SGSAH studentship and the FAUL grant. The senior management is currently trying to fix their poor financial management of the university by closing departments, starting with my home department. They have began a review of the rest of the university and plan on getting rid of 15 people in each department (mostly aimed at the Arts and Humanities). They focussed on only attracting international students in an increasingly hostile and xenophobic environment driven by Westminster. Just like most other universities in the country. An independent financial review informed senor management that they could run with the deficit we currently have and still be okay for at least five years and they do not care. They are running this institution into the ground by trying to manage it as a Fortune 500 company. If the university if any type of business, it is a charitable business. Their Recovery Plan for this institution is to make it the only ancient university in the world without a Modern Languages department, to slash and burn the other departments, to make 1/4 of the offering of Gaelic (a UNESCO recognised language in danger of extinction) disappear. Meanwhile, senior management continue paying themselves obscene money for mismanaging the university and refusing to take a pay cut to help lighten the budgetary burden of their gross incompetence. George Boyne (Principal and Vice-Chancellor) should hang his head in shame. Karl Leydecker (Vice-Principal) should hang his head in shame.
