Edge Hill is a hidden gem as far as universities go. It's not as well known as some other unis but it's really great in almost every way. Very supportive staff, great quiet countryside location with good access to Liverpool and close to surrounding towns such as Southport. The gym facilities are top notch, as well as thr library and departments facilities. Can't recommended enough.
Psychology has a really knowledgeable and tight knit community of lecturers and I have been blessed to be guided by them. I personally did an internship in the NHS under a clinical psychologist which the department were very supporting of. Especially in third year, the lectures and seminars have been geared towards our careers after university. Mt tutor is great and always available, and the facilities are awesome, such as the new lecture hall and specialised research labs.
I lived in back halls which has now been demolished due to its age. It was a great halls to live in and I'm very glad I picked these halls. I met a bunch of great people and we always had a blast. The location was great, just behind the SU, campus shop and laundry facilities. The price point was the best part, it was extra affordable and I was paying less than half of what my friends from other universities were monthly. Edge hill has won awards for its accommodation and it really shows.
The atmosphere encourages a good work ethic and the staff are prompt woth providing support and advice when disclosing information. Edge hill has the perfect balance for student live. An improvement coukd be allowing more students to have their car and providing more parking spaces as well as making events such as a career fair continue til later in the afternoon to allow all students time to access it.
The placements could have been better prepared for students and the expectations could be more clearly disclosed but the course overall is wonderful.
There could be more cupboards and counters as well as another fridge and more worthwhile freezers. Otherwise, very lovely.
Edge Hill University has given me an amazing University experience so far! The campus and facilities are excellent - there are many locations across campus to study or socialize (including an expansive library, student bar, and the building of a large new Student Union building to be completed next academic year). There are also many locations to buy food, and a small campus Morrisons which sells necessities. Rooms with course-specific equipment/software are available to be booked out-of-hours so work can be completed any time, any day. However, a current flaw is the temporary Circuit Laundry facilities on campus - the most accessible way for students to do washing. The machines in these facilities regularly get dirty, are often all full (less than 20 washing machines and driers for the whole campus, located in two different buildings which are a fair distance walk from most accommodation), and regularly break and/or steal money from those using them (the fault of the Circuit Laundry company itself - not the University). Student Support has been reliable and quick to respond whenever my friends or I have had any issues. This has made the transition to student life far easier, and a lot more comfortable. This includes Disability support. Edge Hill University boasts a wide range of Societies, Sports, Events, and Opportunities - as well as fantastic Student Accommodation with spacious kitchens. Additionally, the Student Union (who runs some of these events and all of the societies) has been welcoming and friendly since day one. Despite the lack of a current Student Union building (with a new building is currently under construction), the Student Union remains active and supportive. Location wise, the campus is a 5 minute drive from Ormskirk - a small market town with plenty of shopping facilities and accommodation. The campus bus is free-to-use for students, however often arrived later than scheduled. Regardless, it is a 15 minute walk into the town centre from campus. Ormskirk also has its own train station, with regular trains departing to nearby towns, Liverpool, and Preston. Ormskirk itself feels like a very safe and friendly location. Located in the countryside, Edge Hill is surrounded by crop fields, farms, and woodland areas (such as Ruff Wood, a scenic woodland a short walk from campus). The Edge Hill University campus is modern and unique. Many of the accommodation buildings and learning facilities (Chancellors Court and Chancellors South, and The Catalyst Library) are only a few years old, and even the old buildings boast a modern interior. In my experience, campus has generally felt very safe - I’ve never had to worry about walking alone, even in the dark. Students have been nothing but friendly, in my experience, which was a big worry for me prior to starting university. Overall, I highly recommend Edge Hill University. Any flaws it has are minor and do not greatly impact quality-of-life or quality-of-education. The University is friendly and welcoming, with a wide range of facilities and opportunities, and located in a gorgeous part of North-West England. Studying here was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
My experience with my course (Animation) has been fairly positive since starting in September 2023. The teaching staff are friendly, supportive, and understanding of needs - however, I often find myself struggling to put into action what has been instructed in the lessons, and contact tutors out-of-hours. Starting on a very positive note - course content offers a wide range of expertise and understanding of the Animation industry, and the software used to develop such work. Industry-Standard equipment is used in the course, which allows students to develop the skills needed for entering the industry. This gives students great career prospects. The course also offers an opportunity to attend several Animation Festivals, which allow students to develop industry connections and potentially enter placements/internships. The facilities for the Animation course are also fantastic. Located in the Creative Edge building, the main Animation studio gives students access to 20+ industry standard Wacom drawing tablets, a wide range of software (such as Maya, Toon Boom Harmony, and Photoshop), and other animation tools - such as 3D printers and a separate Stop Motion studio. The main animation studio itself is comfortable and modern, with classrooms being just as good. However, some flaws me and my course mates have encountered is that task explanations are a little too indirect. This has led to myself and others achieving lower grades than we are confident we could have achieved, due to tasks not being explained in the level of detail we required. Work and expectations will often be set with little explanation of what is required, meaning students are not given the opportunity to preform to their full potential. Additionally, tutor contact time has also been unreliable. Emails may go unread for days, regardless of urgency. Other than meeting tutors face-to-face (which isn’t always an option) is a the only reliable way to get a timely response. Support online is mostly reliable. The Learning Edge is a Blackboard page which is available on every course, and gives students access to documents and assignments set by tutors. This has been fairly useful in catching up on missed lessons, however lectures are not recorded - which makes it harder to fully grasp what we are expected to do if a student has missed class.
5-stars, all around. Chancellors Court Boyce building was definitely the best accommodation I would have picked, based on my own requirements and preferences. Location-wise, the building is located in the north campus, next to the Sports Centre - with only a 2-minute walk to Creative Edge and bus stop, and a 5 minute walk to the Main Building (or ‘The Hub’). Situated next to the water, wildlife such as Moorhens and Ducks can often be seen outside the window. For the Accommodation price, the rooms and kitchen are fantastic. The kitchen space is large and offers plenty of facilities - for a 5 bedroom accommodation, it has 2 ovens/grills, 8 hobs, 2 fridges, 2 freezers, a communal TV, a microwave, a 4-slot toaster, 2 sinks, a sofa, a dining table with chairs, and plenty of countertop space. The rooms are also great- with a single bed, radiator, wall-mounted TV, 6 plug sockets, a desk with a built-in desk lamp, a desk chair, large windows, and several shelves. The en-suite wetroom/toilet has - a shower, sink, toilet, and towel rack. The walls are relatively thick, and I have rarely heard noise from accompanying rooms (though, maybe I’ve just been blessed with quiet floormates… it’s hard to tell). The accommodation feels very safe, with 3 separate locked doors before entering a bedroom (one card- pass on the building exterior, a key-locked door leading to the accommodation cluster, and a lockable bedroom door). However I cannot speak much to the safety regarding floormates - I have not encounter problems with mine, so I cannot speak to how ‘safe’ a student would feel if they were assigned bad floormates. But I do know that moving accommodation is an option if a student issues a complaint to Student Services. I have experienced no problems with the Accommodation Wifi/Internet. It is fast and reliable. Property maintenance and management is also very reliable. Kitchens and communal spaces are cleaned by an accommodation-assigned cleaner ever morning on a weekday (vacuuming, cleaning countertops, cleaning kitchen equipment/appliances, etc.). Students in accommodation have access to a vacuum at all times for their personal room cleaning.
The campus and library are particularly lovely! And the town of Ormskirk is nice. It’s really small though which often isn’t what a uni student wants and one club isn’t great. The course is horrific and the student support especially wellbeing wise is abysmal!! The organising is laughable and I would never recommend this place, I would actually tell people not to go!
It’s horrific! I would never continue If id had known it would be this awful, the tutors don’t seem to know what they’re doing! They read off powerpoint slides and give us deadlines that are ridiculous! The workload of teachers is already huge so I’m not sure where they thought we would have the time for everything else!! I will always tell people to not go to Edgehill after my shambles of a third year
It was nice, very modern and had an en-suite. The walls are paper thin so that wasn’t enjoyable and the rooms got very very hot. The living area was nice with a large kitchen and the building felt safe. They also have security that could be called for any issues
Best is the support off campus . Worst is the lack of student life surrounding the place and the execution of my course currently. Large difference between not being taught anything to currently being on placement with huge masses of assignments due . It is great to study throughout because the library is open 24/7
Cpds available through the education society.
I like most the look of the halls as it is highly modern .
The campus is very well looked after and lovely to walk around. My experience with student support has been very accommodating. The student union building is currently under construction and therefore the student union seems irrelevant without the events that usually happen in the building.
We get to do placements which gives us good experience and have opportunities to complete courses free of charge. Newly refurbished building, always clean and conveniently placed cafe. Teaching quality is subjective to who’s teaching. Not everyone is a quality teacher.
Cleaner 5 days a week and all ensuit bedrooms was a lovely luxury. The bathrooms having a wet room shower wasn’t the most ideal and single beds wasn’t ideal either. Having a few halls around campus that had the option of double beds would be nice.
It's an amazing campus with brilliant courses and staff! I've met so many lovely people whilst studying here at Edge Hill University. The only slight downside is Ormskirk doesn't have a lot to do however, by getting a 30 minute train you have access to the rest of Liverpool so this isn't a problem!
The course features interesting modules and has superb lecturers teaching them. The only downside is sometimes the website doesn't have updated staff email however, this is quickly realised as staff always respond quickly. The course overall has many good qualities that make it fun, interesting, and good for future prospects!
These halls were very homely and it had great views, maintenance, and support. It was a blessing living On-Campus and I always felt relaxed whilst surrounded by the amazing campus. These halls very the best value I could find when comparing other universities. The most expensive halls at Edge Hill University were often the same price or cheaper than other universities cheapest halls!
Overall good, not great student life at times in Ormskirk but is not the unis fault. More help or advice on off campus housing would be good, everyone struggled.
Overall good, pyschology teachers can tell you different so can confuse when trying to do an essay. Had problems with multiple essays and one got extended due to everyone being confused. Criminology’s good
Good that your on campus for your first year!
I feel as though there are a lot of facilities on campus, there are many places to eat, which cater for a lot of different needs such as vegan and halal. It’s great to know that I have multiple options on where to get lunch as there is plenty of variety. I love the location of uni as it is in a quiet town, but not far from somewhere busy (liverpool) So there’s a bit of something for everyone. Edgehill consistently make it aware that they are there for students to support whether that be mental health related, Finance related etc. The campus itself Looks amazing, Which includes a beautiful lake, Many animals, Trees bushes flowers, Little waterfalls, Modern buildings, and much more. Due to commuting I am not 100% familiar with student life and student union however, Edgehill constantly keep me updated of all the events they have on campus. Staff have also made me aware of the support that student union offer. Overall, Edgehill University is a great university in all aspects, and I am extremely happy that I chose this university to attend.
The course I’m studying, is extremely interesting and I have no regrets Choosing it. The content that I learn is taught in different ways which keep us students engaged and make us want to learn and attend. I am in first year, however, I have learnt so much already due to the range of modules in my course. I feel as though a Hill universe are extremely accommodating. When it comes to placement they offer you the choice to choose where you want to go however this can only be done once in the 3 years. I got placed in a placement very close to home which was really convenient for me and I feel like the teachers arranging. My placement took this into consideration which I appreciated. The teachers at Edgehill University Are extremely nice and teach in a way Which keeps me interested throughout the session. They make it clear that questions can be asked, and that they are there to help. The content is also taught in a Clear way, which makes it easy to understand and less overwhelming. Always make it aware to students of the different careers available. They do this by sending out emails and even inviting professionals in for talks. I am able to contact my tutors with any concerns and they will reply to me when they can. Subject facilities, such as specific resources are available on campus for us to use in lessons which is extremely helpful as we get a practical experience.
Edge Hill has a beautiful campus and a variety of programs for students. It also has a large number of international students which makes studying abroad fun and easy to make friends. They also host events weekly for all students with additional events such as trips to local areas for international students. The campus is also nearby major cities that are accessible via train. My only complaint of the university is the lack of food options, particularly on the weekends. Aside from this, I would recommend Edge Hill to prospective students.
My course is taught all in person with lectures and seminars which I enjoy. However, I do wish the course content was more challenging and included more preparation for the career.
The location of this hall is very convenient as it is very close to the student center, bus stop, security office, and laundry facilities. However, it is very evident that the building is old and has not been renovated. The kitchen and bathroom facilities are in need of renovation.

Other students also liked these unis - you might too!
There are a lot of good and positive things to share about.
It's a very central location in southampton, close to the train station and the city centre. Very well internationally connected, with partnerships at universities all over the wor...
