Leeds Beckett is such a good university due to the location.
I would want more contact hours
the location wasn’t great
The city centre campus lacks the feel of being at university which other campus universities have, such as University of Leeds up the road. The students' union is not ingrained into the experience of being a student here like what can be observed in other places. It took a long time to feel settled in here as there are limited events, activities and opportunities for spontaneous social occasions. This is not limited to a slightly disappointing building and facilities that people don't spend their day hanging around within (bar, cafes, study spaces). Chances of bumping into people I know are slim and each school and its building function very separately form each other with very little effort to bring together students from different courses and schools. The library is a very useful place to spend my time around the clock with all the facilities I need to get work done, but some cosier, remodeled study spaces and a later opening coffee shop/machine would be a recommendation. Financial issues are a problem in every university these days, and this has been a massive contribution to my loss of motivation and negative experience especially towards third year. Some help is available but initiatives for helping people to save money are few.
Staff are dedicated and supportive and offer a breadth of module material which is engaging and relevant. On my course, class sizes are small and it is easy to access support from any of the staff. Module material is varied but this also means that there is limited opportunity to develop my work from previous mistakes and efforts. It feels that there is not the time or chance to do much with what I've learnt before it is put aside and an entirely different module is started up in its place. A work placement was a requirement for one of the modules but not enough of these were arranged with companies and I was given a different option - which didn't give me the confidence that I understood my career options in any way more than before. Financial stresses also contribute to lack of practical placement options (location). The course offers a lot of field trips, some of which are residential. I feel that I have benefitted greatly from the experiences academically and socially of having two international trips on the course which have been to two very interesting cities in Europe. It gave me the opportunity to get to know people and to see places I hadn't before. in third year there was a writing retreat in the nearby Yorkshire Dales, and this gave an opportunity to think deeply about the dissertation with help on hand.
Unipol is a good provider of accommodation. I trust them more than any private landlord. One Mill street was homely and unique, and I have no regrets choosing it for my first year accommodation. It is located in the city centre but about as far away from the uni as it could be, but it was never an issue going into town, just uphill all the way. I chose a flat of 5 with shared bathrooms which proved to be the best answer. two spacious bathrooms with a bath each and a large living room. Rooms were large enough and the place was reasonably modern - but in need of a refresh soon. The kitchen was small and would not have been enjoyable to use if all of my flatmates were there at once. It did come with the benefit of a washing machine so I have managed to avoid the burden of Circuit Laundry for my three years at university. I loved being on that side of town, close to the bus station and Leeds Dock. However, there were no supermarkets close by. Most student accommodation especially budget accom is aimed towards first years, and freshers vibe gets tired after a week or so. Mill Street was the place to be, but now I'm in third year I wouldn't go back to a purpose built accommodation. Value for money in a privately rented house is much better. Student accommodation is massively massively overprices. Considering that the rooms are squeezed in and flat sizes are uncomfortably large in many cases, they just should not be charging so much. no amount of marketing and pool tables would convince me to pay around £40 per week more than in a house in LS4. tip for people who design and build student accommodation - make the flats smaller, because I only want to share with two or maybe three people. Provide washing machines in the flat/stop charging as much as you do for communal basic facilities. Stop charging so so much money per week. Make the rooms room-shaped rather than a corridor with a 3/4 bed in the corner. And people might choose you over ex-family housing in the local areas.
Better student union facilities
For lecturers/seminar tutors to sometimes be more in depth than just what is on a PowerPoint slide
Nice room and location Slight faults eg lack of hot water for a month, electric hob sometimes playing up
I am an adult student and has dyslexia. I found that LeedsBeckett University is very supportive and helpful. I have arrange for me to have Reasonable Adjustments and special tool to help me learn and prepare for my lectures , assignments and exams. This really made me feel happy knowing that I am involved with my own learning with the support of the university. They even give free wellbeing checkups/ therapy sessions which is a great help when you are in crisis. I really felted valued and all my other peers are really enjoying their course through Leed Beckett University.
Good size lectures rooms, well ventilated and good lighting. They have a vast range of other facilities like food halls, lounge area. Very clean and well maintained facilities.
In the heart of city centre and next to all amenities.
There’s lots of places to study independently such as the library and other quiet areas around the university. There’s lots of support for student wellbeing
A lot of the lecture content is more catered towards adult nursing rather than mental health but there are good facilities such as simulation suites
It was quite expensive even for those who received the highest student loan. However, I felt safe and the rooms were a good size and had enough space
Friendly environment easy to find way around and the my Beckett website helps with catching up on work and doing extra private study, communication through the uni could be more sufficient and some of the work being marked has taken a few months and still not had it back
Course is a mix of workshops, lectures and seminars a lot of 1-2-1 teaching time in seminars
Would not recommend
It is a great place to study as it is a sport campus so it is always busy, and full of people who try to stay fit and healthy. The lecturers are all extremely knowledgeable and offer as much help as they can and show that they really care about the students.
The course is very interesting, all the lecturers are very knowledgeable and insightful. The course has a great balance of online work and in person, meaning that any issues or questions i may have it is easy to ask for help. The course offers a lot of time learning individually, so it is easy to explore personal interests which help to keep passionate about the course and future careers.
It is a great flat, with enough room to be comfortable to stay alone in my room but also socialise with flatmates whenever i want. The facilities are good with spacious rooms but the water takes ages to go down the sink which can sometimes be annoying.
The Headingley Campus at Leeds Beckett is an incredibly welcoming and inviting place that has a large range of sports facilities and clubs all available for use and students are encouraged to partake in any activities they so wish. Although it can get cold up north, there is nothing better than seeing your friends in the gym or around campus or even your lecturers and having a catch up with them about how your course is going and if you need any help.
The teachers are more than helpful when it comes to studying and learning. They provide the best possible experience along with continuous support for independent projects. The facilities are unmatched and students frequently get to try out new and rare pieces of equipment that aren’t available at a normal gym.
Living in halls is one of the best most eye opening experiences. You get to live with all of your friends, mingle with other flats and frequently get invited to different parties on different floors. Having lived in halls I can say it’s a vital part of meeting new people and developing social skills, as well as having fun in your first year and saying you’ve done the freshers experience.
I don’t make full use of all student support, union and facilities so can not really judge. However I’ve heard many great things about them. The location is good, accessible by walking and driving.
Although I don’t get much tutor contact time, I much prefer this blend of in person and online lectures.
My flat mates were so dirty, when I complained nothing happened and I didn’t get my full security deposit back because of mess they made.
Activities for students during the academic semester could be better. The heating in the library could be a bit higher as it’s super cold in there. Nevertheless, it’s a great place to study. Most instructors are eager to teach and help.
It’s all good
It was a bad experience. There was always something broken. Maintenance team took days to show up and fix things.

There are a lot of good and positive things to share about.
