I found Oxford Brookes University a great opportunity to study interesting modules, having simultaneously the possibility to do interesting activities such as field trips in Oxford and London. I have free a lot of free time that allows me to do what I love the most, sport. I would prefer if Brookes University offered us more opportunities of Exchange Study Abroad and more field trips around UK.
It is a very interesting course with stimulating and useful modules.
Very close to the Uni but more laundry machines would be useful.
Campuses have a large amount of areas where you can study
Most lectures are in person with them being recorded and the lecture hours are always shorter than scheduled
Great price bus buses to you are always very full
Well I love how Oxford Brookes has qualified lecturers , Oxford Brooke’s has an beautiful campus , it also provides a lot of courses But it could use more diversity, it could use more consideration on different diversity groups and religions an example would be there aren’t any halal options on campus
Well we have 1 hour lectures and 1 hour seminars which are not very effective , due to lack of time some lectures have to speed through the fast few slides , few lectures refer specifically to students how have done A levels , some lectures might not understand that everyone doesn’t come for a similar school system , an example of that would be is I have never done essay or assignment in my school , so understanding the question , writing it down , researching for it was something I found hard while other students might have found it easy , so lectures never really explained it properly because they just assumed everyone understood.
I hate it , the WiFi sucks , the bus that supposed to come every 15 minutes is the reason I miss classes , the bus is never on time it’s always The maintenance sucks , I have had no lights in my washroom for 2 weeks now , complained a couple times just still not fixed , I do love the people that work at reception they are extremely sweet
The university priorities are strongly linked to commercial profit making over the quality of student experience.
Facilities need a major upgrade - especially music.
I am a first-year student at Oxford Brookes University, and I'm quite enjoying my experience so far. I've rated the campus as 5 stars for its looking and feel. As my classes are primarily held at the Business School building and the main Headington campus, I can't speak to the other campuses' qualities since I haven't visited them. The main campus is located a 45-minute walk from the city centre, which may be a downside for some. However, you can apply for free bus passes that allow students to get to the city centre within a 15-minute bus ride (sometimes 30-35 minutes if you’re stuck in a traffic jam). Regarding student life, the university offers a big variety of societies, making it really easy to meet new people and make friends. During my first semester, I thoroughly enjoyed attending social events organized by the societies I joined. The university provides a diverse range of sports activities which students can do and even try for the first time which I found as a good opportunity to explore new interests. Also, the teachers at Brookes were very supportive and approachable throughout my semester. Overall, I'm enjoying my time at Brookes, but since it's only my first year, I hesitate to make a definitive judgment.
The content of the course I'm undertaking is good. All classes are conducted in person, but meetings with student advisers are always available online but if you require assistance outside of scheduled meetings, just book an appointment with your student adviser. I've rated the lectures and teaching quality at 4 stars as each lecture typically lasts about an hour, sometimes even less, around 50 minutes. This duration was surprising to me, as I've heard from friends at other universities that their lectures often run for 1.5 to 2 hours. In terms of career prospects, Oxford Brookes has a high employability percentage post-graduation, which is very encouraging.
The Warneford Hall accommodation offered by Oxford Brookes University seems to be the cheapest option available compared to others. I ended up being allocated here because I applied at the last minute, and it was the only available option. However, despite this, I've found some positive aspects to it. The location of Warneford Hall is excellent, being just a 5-minute walk from the main campus, which I find very convenient for attending classes and accessing university facilities. Also, for those who enjoy running, like myself, there's the added benefit of having South Park nearby, although it's worth noting that the park is relatively small. One downside I've encountered is the limitation on receiving deliveries. Unfortunately, items cannot be delivered to the main office of the halls; instead, they must be delivered directly to your door. This can be somewhat inconvenient and may result in orders being returned if they are not addressed properly. Overall, despite some drawbacks, Warneford Hall offers affordable accommodation in a convenient location for students at Oxford Brookes University.
There are good quiet places to study in and the seminar rooms have a nice layout which make it good for open conversation. Having to take the bus can be a pain as they are very unreliable and often make me late as they simply don't turn up. The student union provides good and inclusive activities for all.
Some of the seminars consist of just being talked at, it would be nicer if they were more interactive. Some of the lecturers speak too quickly and it is difficult to keep up, or they don't understand the questions being asked to them
I like the location, its isn't too far away from campus and there is a handy resource. The only downside to this accommodation is that a cinema room and gym were advertised but they are not always functioning. A lot of the machines in the gym are permanently out of use and the cinema room only works if you are able to bring your own HDMI cable.
The location is amazing. Being able to live in Oxford is unlike anything else. The buidings are modern and nice. The timetables are given well in advance.
There is a lack of desire for the students to succeed. There have been to many times when I have sought understanding on something and have been made to feel like I'm not capable of understanding the way this person is explaining it. The lack of optional modules makes everything feel like a drag.
The facilities are very useful, I always find what I need in order to complete my work. Any problem I have raised with student support, they have been very helpful and sorted my issue quickly. There is a wide range of societies to be apart of so there is really something for everyone. The competitive sports teams provide an exciting experience when watching from the sidelines whilst enjoying drink and food from the sports bar. In order to improve my uni experience at university, more on site accommodation options would have been useful. I had to commute from Parade Green which deterred me from attending all of my lectures. The options of Cheney on campus was too expensive as the contract included renting for summer as well. Finally, I have found it hard to fit into a friend group within my course although I have plenty of friends outside of my course from the uni.
I am happy with the quality of my course and the amount of face-to-face teaching we receive. My lectures range from interactive sessions to more theory based teaching which I enjoy. There is also a nice range between lectures, practicals and seminars which creates a nice balance and keeps the course interesting. There are great opportunities on my course including training and receiving extra qualifications and also field trips. I believe some of the content on my course could be slightly more interesting but this would be personal preference between modules. I also found it was hard to get to my exams last year being the other side of Oxford, especially with Botley Road being closed. It would have been more helpful if they were on campus.
I like my uni halls because they were modern, had a clean feel when first moving in and most of the appliances in the kitchen worked. The reception staff were also very helpful if dealing with a complaint, security issue or post. I felt safe in these halls of residence due to the need for a key card to enter the premises, flat block and then flat. I also know people who were able to move flats quite easily if they did not get on well with the flat they were originally in. What I did not like so much was the location, it was rather hard work to get into uni on time with unreliable buses. The bus timetable/app would never match up to what time they actually turn up and traffic was usually bad. Also, Parade Green had a gym, however about 80% of the machines in there were broken by the end of the year. It was also rather small for the amount of students staying there. This was the same for the games room, the pool cues would get broken regularly and not replaced. Maybe some supervision from staff in this room would have prevented this. Finally, there were outside game courts, however they were not allowed to be used after a certain time which is sometimes, due to lectures, would be the only time we had. However if I was in a flat surrounding these courts I would probably been grateful for this. Another point is that there was no student parking which would have been very useful.
It is a very diverse place which is good, but there should be more funding opportunities for students from abroad.
The lectures do a good job, but there should be more support during placement, and some funding. although there is the NHS bursary, not everyone gets it. It can be very stressful looking for a part-time job whilst on placement.
my experience in friar court has been good, but maybe there should be more security as there is in other accommodations.
It is a fantastic place to study because of its location, student life, student support, student union and facilities. Oxford is beautiful, and the campus is modern and easy to locate. I never feel alone because of the city's other students and colleges/universities. The university offers many excellent study facilities with computers, laptops, and an extensive collection of library books and online sources. The student community is very supportive, and the student union is very active and provides many opportunities.
My course is taught with blended learning. We are informed of the learning type through our calendar, which is easy to access, and I can always get help if I find any issues. I achieved and completed a work placement year through the university, as there was a specific course for work placement finding, and I could access help and support throughout the process. I can talk to my lecturers and tutors during their office hours and have had no issue contacting them.
It was a fantastic accommodation/hall. It was in a great location, with bus stops outside the halls that could take you to the Headington campus and the City Centre. It was within walking distance of the campus and supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl. It had a gym on-site, a football/basketball playing area, a common room, and a study area. There were laundry facilities and Wi-Fi throughout the halls. There was a hall office with staff who could help with any issues.
