Going through Clearing can be a stressful time. In a lot of cases, not getting a place at your first choice uni can mean that you’ll not be offered on-campus accommodation and that your dream of getting a new apartment with an en-suite is just that – a dream.

Being accepted onto a course later in the year – thus delaying your application for student accommodation – can mean that the most desirable rooms have been snapped up, but we can help!

Think about it

By all means, if the course and university is right, then just go for it – you can worry about accommodation later. However, if you’re privileged enough to have a number of uni or course options on the table, then you should factor in your accommodation options before making a final decision.

For example, a big city offers a bigger variety of types of accommodation, but a small town can potentially save you some serious cash.

Shop around

Don’t panic if you don’t think you’ve been offered the best accommodation; equally, don’t rush or feel pressured into accepting unreasonably priced accommodation just because you think you might have ‘missed the boat’. You have more options than you may think.

Many universities put on open-days specifically for Clearing students like you, so you can explore accommodation options and see what’s available, as well as get to know students who are in the same position as you, and to help you get a feel for the area you’ll be living in.

There are also many uni housing groups on Facebook, where you can find potential housemates, and get advice from second- and third-year students or even graduates. If nothing else, you’ll make a new friend or two.

One last word of advice

Looking for somewhere to live can be stressful, but don’t be left without somewhere to go come freshers’ week! Stay on top of it all to minimise the stress; go to that house-viewing, call the accommodation provider for the second, third, and fourth time today – you’ll thank yourself for it.

Fusion Students offers first-class uni accommodation to local and international students from around the globe. With its own gym, private dining room, cinema, nightclub, and more, what else could you want?
