On results day you’ll need to use the UCAS Hub system (formerly UCAS Track) to track your applications, manage offers and go through Clearing if needed. Here you can find out everything you’ll need to know about using it on the day.
How does UCAS Hub work on results day?
UCAS will get your results directly from your school or college in most cases, and it'll update your Hub with your offers as soon as possible. For some result types, you’ll need to send them directly to the institutions you applied to.
UCAS Hub won’t show your exact results, but it’ll tell you whether you have offers from your firm or insurance choices.
If you don’t get the results you want and need to add choices through Clearing, you can also do this through UCAS Hub.
We always recommend doing a bit of preparation before results day, most of which is gathering things you might need throughout the day. It's a good idea to get them all together the night before so you're not rushing about in the morning. This can include:
- UCAS Hub login details
- UCAS ID number
- UCAS Clearing number, if you go into Clearing
- Details of your offers
- The UCAS and Clearing numbers of your chosen universities
- A working phone and computer, so you can communicate by phone or email
When does UCAS Hub open and when does it update on results day?
Results day for A-levels is on Thursday 15 August 2024, and UCAS begins updating applicant records from 8:15am.
Results day for SQAs is Tuesday 6 August, and UCAS begins updating applicant records from 9am.
Due to the number of updates being made, it might take a little while for your results to show on the system. You should check UCAS Hub regularly as live updates will be made throughout the day.
You won’t be able to add your Clearing choices to UCAS Hub until 2pm that day, so there’s plenty of time to make any decisions.
You can’t make any changes to your UCAS Hub details in the run-up to results day but you can get in touch with UCAS directly if you need to update anything.
What happens once your UCAS Hub is updated?
Once UCAS receives information from your university choices, you might see several different updates regarding your applications:
- Unconditional – your conditional offer has been confirmed and is secure
- Unconditional Changed Course – your conditional offer has been withdrawn as you didn’t have the grades needed, but the institution has offered you a place on another course with lower grade requirements or a different start date, or both
- Unsuccessful – your conditional offer has been withdrawn as you didn’t have the grades needed, but you can use Clearing to make new choices.
If you get unconditional or unconditional changed offers, you’ll find out what actions you need to take next through the university or directly through UCAS.
If you don’t get the offers you’d hoped for, you can still take other actions. If you didn’t receive your firm offer, you might choose to accept your insurance offer.
You might want to talk to the relevant institutions if your firm or insurance applications were unsuccessful, as they might reconsider their decision in some circumstances – for example, if you're going to appeal any of your grades.
If your UCAS Hub doesn't update, it might mean that the universities you applied for are still considering your application, so you should get in touch with them to talk about it.
If you don’t get any offers from your chosen institutions, you could choose to:
- Retake your exams
- Reapply for the next academic year
- Go through Clearing to make additional applications
You might also decide to decline one or more of your offers and take one of the actions above. However, we recommend not to decline any offer until you’ve secured a new offer through Clearing or are sure about your decision to defer.
What should you do if you need to go through Clearing?
Don’t worry about going through Clearing. Many students go through Clearing with strong grades, and others decide to go through Clearing despite having one or more offers. This might be because they want to go to a particular institution or want to discuss their application directly with their chosen universities.
If you're eligible for applications through UCAS Clearing, your UCAS Hub will say so and supply you with a Clearing number. You’ll need to give this number along with your UCAS ID when calling universities during Clearing.
You’ll be able to browse available courses through your UCAS Hub. The system will show all the available courses on Clearing, with live updates to help you see what’s left at any time.
You can also make use of UCAS Clearing Plus, which matches relevant Clearing courses with you based on the information you’ve provided in your UCAS profile.
You can ring as many universities as you like to secure offers from them. However, you can only add one Clearing choice to your UCAS Hub at a time so it’s important to do this carefully. Once you’ve made a Clearing choice through UCAS Hub, you won’t be able to make another choice until you're accepted or rejected.
Clearing runs until 21 October 2024, so you don’t need to make a decision on results day if you don’t feel ready.
