BSc - Bachelor of Science
University of Kent
Full Time
23-SEP-24
3 years
Do you like maths and working with young people? Are you thinking about becoming a teacher? Mathematics with Secondary Education is a three-year programme leading to an honours degree and a recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Overview
Mathematics with Secondary Education (QTS) is part of an exciting collaboration between Kent and the Faculty of Education at Canterbury Christ Church University.
You can specialise in mathematics and statistics while developing as a creative and reflective teacher at secondary level.
Teaching and assessment
Teaching methods are varied, with a particular emphasis on student participation and active learning. Work in school is overseen by a mentor (an experienced teacher in the school) who liaises with a link tutor from the University.
During the programme you spend a significant amount of time learning to teach in schools and other education settings, which may be both local and international. There is a range of contrasting experiences of teaching in terms of age groups, type, size and location.

The minimum requirements are three passes at GCE A level and a pass at grade C (or grade 4) or above in GCSE English Language or Use of English. Offers are normally based on achieving three A levels or equivalent at Level 3, although some University subject areas may specify differently. You must have a minimum of two A level equivalents at Level 3 in two subjects (ie two A levels or one vocational double award). For applicants whose first language is not English, we require IELTS (including IELTS Indicator) 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in R&W; 5.5 in S&L) and, they are listed on our International Entry Requirements page.
We have a standard International Baccalaureate Diploma offer of 34 points across all programmes of study including any specific subjects at higher or standard level required by the particular degree programme. As an alternative to achieving 34 points, for most programmes, the University will also make IB students the offer of passing the IB Diploma with specific achievement in higher/standard level subjects. For applicants whose first language is not English, we require IELTS (including IELTS Indicator) 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in R&W; 5.5 in S&L) and, they are listed on our International Entry Requirements page.
