Make it more engaging rather than just reading

I am a PhD student, and I can access facilities like printers, stationery, and an office desk, which is beneficial for my studies. Also, I always receive updated emails from the university regarding internships and career opportunities. Most importantly, both of my supervisors are very supportive and friendly. Overall, my study experience at our university is fantastic.

Everything is so good in the Leonard Horner Hall. It would be perfect if the uni could provide microwaves in the kitchen of Leonard Horner Hall.

I don't know much about work placements and internships the university offers yet. I'll have my placement in year 3.

I was lucky when it comes to accommodation after a very harsh start here in Edinburgh, involving scams, irresponsibility of the property manager of my in-that-time-presumed accommodation and a lot of stress - I have a non-suite room, but all the other rooms are unoccupied, so I have the kitchen and bathroom to myself.

Not many graduate/career opportunities regarding marine sciences.

Overall good livi mg conditions. Appliances could be updated.

Some teachers really made us think about real life projects through the case studies. Others just tried to get away with their lectures. The course is highly commercialized and there are more than 100 people in the class. It makes interacting in the class and concentrating on lectures more difficult

They have really good location. I don't like the fact the they stack people from same region with in the same flat

Lecturers could have been a little generous in teaching a bit more detaily.

I think that the course it’s self is planned out very well and that the hours are good and the tutorials are a great way to improve your understanding on the subject. However I do find the lectures a waste of time as all that happens is the lectures reading of a PowerPoint. They go through the slides way to fast to note down what there saying and leads to you leaving the lecture confused.

The social life around heriot watt is great and edinburgh is a fantastic city to live. Although it’s expensive it’s extremely fun. The location of Heriot watt sometimes makes it annoying getting to the city Center but the campus is great if you want a slightly country feel.

I think the halls are to expensive for what is offered as the room came with may faults when I got it my kitchen hob and oven did not work for the first two weeks I was there and after contacting res life in the first 2 days they did not come till 2 weeks later this was a reoccurring problem.

The best aspect is the collaborative course work which help students learn about team work. The worst aspect is not having a separate time allocated to students without proper background in their choosing field

Its always quite no distractions. And for what i dint like is the fact that there's no microwave in the room to ease my task

First couple of years is very broad geography, which was unexpected but personally i enjoyed this throughly. I did not expect to identify myself as an 'environmentalist' but over the course of this degree i am comfortable and happy to be viewed this way. As with any degree its a typical split between a couple of great tutors, some mediocre and a couple really poor. Though i think its wise not to let this cloud your experience with the subject.

Halls are the furthest away (westerly) point from the city of Edinburgh, which makes for a strange 'enclave', and estranged feel from the city. The late transport from city centre is tempremental, often you will walk for up to an hour (maybe more) coming back from nights out (which i didnt do often). My halls expeience was quite poor, i made effort to meet people and join societies but never clicked with anyone or made 'close' friendships, particularly with the people i lived with in halls. Cant say or not if this was common, most people i know had a decent time. Unless you're into 'traditional' sports, there is not much to do on campus, no proper shop (aside from overpriced campus shop) which makes getting shopping a nightmare, online food shopping is almost a necessity. Last but not least the fire alarm going off at 2-3 in the morning more often than anyone would care to admit is truly awful, this isnt really the Uni's fault, its more 18 year olds having their first drink and having a good time breaking the rules. These are the ramblings of when i was 23 and in halls so arguably i should have known better than to move into halls, but moving to a new city this is often the only option beacuse you dont know anyone. I am lucky i had 'acquaintances' from my high school days that lived in Edinburgh that i got to know better and moved in with them in second year.
