What is UCAS Hub?
UCAS Hub is an online service from UCAS that lets you see how your university applications are progressing, accept interview invitations or offers, and reply to universities about your offers.
You can also use UCAS Hub on results day and secure a Clearing choice if you need to.
How does UCAS Hub work?
UCAS Hub is where you can view the status of your application. Once you send your application, you can check in Hub to see if you've received offers, or which unis you're still waiting to hear back from.
You'll find documents such as offer letters or invitations to interview in your UCAS Hub. Hub is also where you'll accept or reject offers.
Once you've made your firm and insurance choice on UCAS Hub, it'll be frozen until results day. On results day, UCAS Hub will be updated to show whether you've been successful in your applications and what offers you have.

What do you do if you have no offers on UCAS Hub?
If you haven't received any offers from the universities you applied to or if you choose to reject all the offers you receive, you may be able to add additional choices through UCAS Extra or UCAS Clearing. UCAS Extra allows you to apply to one course at a time and is open between 28 February 2024 and 4 July 2024.
Clearing officially opens on 5 July and allows you to apply to courses if you have your results confirmed but hold no firm offers from a university. You can also choose to release yourself into Clearing if you have a firm offer from a university that you don't wish to accept and apply for different courses through Clearing.
How do you add Clearing choices to UCAS Hub?
If you’re eligible for Clearing, you’ll be given a Clearing number. You’ll need to phone the Clearing phone numbers of your chosen institutions with them to discuss an application and see if they’ll give you a verbal offer. Once you have one or more verbal offers, you can add one Clearing choice to your UCAS Hub.
How to find your Clearing number
Your Clearing ID or Clearing number can be found through the ‘application status’ section of your UCAS Hub. You'll only see this once Clearing is open, you have your results, and you haven't got a confirmed place at university. If you're holding a confirmed place at university but want to change your course, you'll have to release yourself into Clearing to get a Clearing ID. You may be able to speak to unis and get a verbal offer without your Clearing ID, so it's worth phoning round before you release yourself into Clearing.
Finding a course
You can use the UCAS Hub course search tool to browse available courses, which is updated regularly. There's also the Clearing Plus tool on UCAS, which will automatically match you with relevant courses. From here, you can express interest in matched courses that might lead to an institution calling you to offer you a place.
While looking for a course through Clearing, we suggest you:
- Check regularly, as places can free up as well as be filled
- Pay close to attention to entry requirements, course length and other key details
- Consider similar subjects or joint honours programmes to widen your choices
Getting Clearing offers
Once you’ve found courses you want to apply to, you should call the relevant institution. You’ll need to give them your UCAS ID and Clearing number, so have them ready.
If the university is happy to accept you with your grades, they’ll give you an informal offer. You can ring as many universities as you want and get as many verbal offers as you like. It’s also possible to email universities but this takes longer, and you may miss out on your preferred courses.
You might also want to ask about other parts of the university while on the phone, like the Students’ Union and accommodation options.
Adding offers to your UCAS Hub
Once you have an informal Clearing offer from a university, college or conservatoire, you can add it to UCAS Hub.
You shouldn’t add a Clearing choice to your UCAS Hub unless the relevant institution has given you permission to. Remember, you can only add one Clearing choice to UCAS Hub at a time.
Log in to UCAS Hub and go to ‘your choices’. Then select ‘add Clearing choice’ and add the details of your course. The university might give you a deadline to do this by, but in any case you’ll probably want to do this as soon as you’ve come to a definite decision.
Once you’ve submitted it, you’ve officially accepted the Clearing offer. You’ll then need to wait for the institution to confirm the place. You’ll be able to see their confirmation on the ‘choices’ page.
If the institution declines your choice for whatever reason, you’ll be able to add another Clearing choice.
Why isn’t UCAS Hub adding your Clearing choice?
UCAS Hub hasn’t updated yet with your results
You might expect to be in Clearing after picking up your exam grades. UCAS Hub can take some time to update on results day, so you might not see this immediately. Keep checking back, and eventually you’ll see whether you’ve got any offers or been placed into Clearing.
You won’t be able to start using Clearing until 2pm on results day, so don’t worry about waiting. If your UCAS Hub still hasn’t updated after that, you should get in touch with the universities you applied to as they might still be considering your application.
You already have a university place from your original application
You won’t be able to enter into Clearing and add a new choice if you already have an offer from your firm or insurance choices. In this case, you’ll need to decline your offers and release yourself into Clearing.
You should think carefully before declining a university place as it'll be unlikely that you can reverse it if you change your mind. It’s recommended that you secure verbal Clearing offers from your chosen institution(s) before self-releasing into Clearing.
To self-release into UCAS Clearing, you’ll need to:
- Sign into UCAS Hub and select ‘decline my place’ for your offer
- Confirm your decision to decline
- Get email confirmation that you’re in Clearing
You've already made a Clearing choice on UCAS Hub
While you can secure as many Clearing offers as you want through calling universities, you’ll only be able to have one Clearing choice on your UCAS Hub at a time.
If you make a Clearing choice on UCAS Hub, you’ll have to wait for that institution to accept or reject your choice before you can make another.
As a result, you should only select a course through Clearing after getting a verbal offer from the university over the phone.
You should think carefully before adding one of your Clearing offers to UCAS Hub.
