Student life here is amazing!

I am not that happy with my seminar teachers!

Thus far I have enjoyed my time at the University of Essex. The campus itself is nice and the student union is very active. If you're looking for a very social campus you can find your group here and have a lovely time. The one thing I have been less than impressed with is some of the lecturers for some of my core modules. But besides that, I have been enjoying my master's program being challenged and learning a lot at the same time.

Some of the lecturers are not great but then others are phenomenal. It really depends on your course and its department. I can't really answer for how internships or career prospects are after university as I'm still going through the course. But the university provides a lot of support with helping you find a job, refining your CV, teaching LinkedIn, and more. Additionally, a lot of the teachers are willing to help in their spare time which is extremely helpful when I've had a lot of questions.

I live in the Quays and it is the furthest accommodation from campus managed by the school. Before coming here I thought that wouldn't be a problem as I love walking and would just need to leave for my classes a little earlier. Except no one ever mentions the bridge.... There is a bridge that goes over the railroad tracks that will take you 5 minutes to get over. Sometimes I want to go to the library to focus more but then I remember I would have to climb over the bridge twice and I talk myself out of it. I wish they had built stairs alongside the switchbacks so that people could have options on how to get over. Another thing about the Quays that is hit or miss is room allocation. They are slowly renovating all the flats and you'll either get lucky with a newer flat or get screwed over with a bent out-of-shape flat that no one should be inhabiting. When I first moved to the Quays I was living in a room that smelled constantly of the bog that is nearby, had multiple broken things in my room, the kitchen was disgusting, and more. I complained enough to the point I moved to another room in the Quays that was newly renovated and I love my new flat. It truly just depends on the hand you are dealt. But if the university is reading this... please finish renovating all of the flats in the Quays. It's not fair that all students are paying the same price and some are getting a nice new flat whereas others have to walk along a carpet that looks like it was once used in a barn. On the plus side, it looks like they're putting in a Sainsbury right next to these accommodations so that will be a benefit in future years.
