Tell us about your overall university experience so far.

The overall experience was excellent. I came as a 17 year old sheltered kid and was able to fit in and find my way within days. The Univeristy organized parties and functions to start the ball rolling on obtaining friends and aquaintances. This set the tone for a good foundation. Even though I was an Engineering Student I got to know and had friends from all Depts. The Medical Students were the most fun to befriend for some reason ! My Studies actually prepared me for a lifelong career that spanned 4 continents. I was able to move between continents and companies easily because of the social and technical skills I learned at Liverpool. The diversity and stability of the place were amazing.

Facilities

How good are your university's facilities?

The facilities were very good with a great library, a students union that had many facilities for sports and leisure.

Student support

How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).

Students supported each other a lot when thing swent wrong and solid friendships developed. I still have life long friends after 39 years I am still in touch with in several countries of the world and all over Britain.

Students' union

What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?

It was a home away from home wher you could escape, hang out, eat and study.

Local life

Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?

Liverpool had all the facilities we needed from good shopping, concerts, FOOTBALL and parks to nearby attractions such as Southport and Blackpool.

Societies and Sports

How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?

There was a myriad of Clubs and Societies. This was in the days before computers so we had a lot of leisure time to do a vairety of things. I joined some and moved on to others. I must admit I did not a passion for a particular society but I tried a few.

Lecturers and teaching quality

What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?

All my courses were relevant to my career and were presented in a professional way preparing me for the real world. All theoretical courses were tied to real world situations.

Career prospects

How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?

I was able to find work within a couple of months and have not been out of a job except once for three weeks in a 39 year career. And that was only because the start date was two weeks after I was accepted. I think that that says it all !!!

University halls

What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?

At Roscoe and Gladstone I had a private room with a balcony ! I traveled far and wide but never saw such a comnfortable room in any halls of residence I've seen and I've seen a few. I am sure they must be better but you wont come across them easily. The communal dining area was a great place to chat and we spent hours talking and socializing after eating ... not just eat and run. It was transformed into a dance hall and we had several concerts including some later to be famous bands of the time.
