Good: Department staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and lecturers are pleasant people. Great support for each module if you need it, especially with mathematics. The library is a brilliant environment to study and is open 24hr. Lancaster City is a short bus ride away or a 40 minute walk. Weekly market is awesome. Lake District is a short train ride away, for walks and hikes. Bad: Nightlife is lacking on campus and in the city, but that doesn't bother me (other people are bothered). Tip: The college system is not what I imagined, the only real effect it has is on the location of accommodation in your first year (on campus) and your graduation group. So my advice is to choose the accomodation first, then your college.

Good: Course is great, engaging, challenging in some areas (obviously this is subjective). Lecturers are interesting people who clearly care about their subject and are good teachers (the majority are great teachers) Bad: Timetable is overloaded some days, and empty in others. We have had tests at 17:00 on the last day of term, and online tests at 18:00-20:00 (when we've been free the entire day).

John creed is divided into 7 blocks, each block has 4 floors, each floor has 2 "flats" with 2-4 residents. Each flat has a kitchen, which is shared between the residents in that flat. Good: Basic en-suite rooms are the best IMO, the rooms are larger and the bathroom is NOT a wetroom which is great. The location is great, I like a bit of separation from my department (engineering) to distinguish my work from rest, and the 10 minute walk does that nicely. Bad: Not a "social building", freshers week was dull simply because nobody in this building wanted to do any of the planned activities. The small groups of people (2-4) make socialising with flatmates more difficult than with other accommodation (which has 12+ people per group). The kitchens are not modern but are adequete. The other issue is that ventilation is very poor, in both the kitchen, hallway and living spaces. Opening a window doesnt help because there is very little wind (due to the shape of the building and the fact that it faces another building, it means that you are very sheltered from wind). This has lead to cases where the odour of cooking from several days ago, still lingers. People also smoke (various) in their bathrooms(to prevent setting fire alarms off), which, due to the design of the building rises up and into the above flats, filling the room with the effects, where it lingers (as stated, no ventillation). This is the worst thing about the flat IMO, this is obviously based on the people in your building, which will change, but keep this in mind.

As good as it can be, labs are the main section of my course which has been lost due to COVID-19 and they have been unable to happen until February. Once opened up however, I was able to book my spaces in and do some in person work which was good. Societies have worked really hard to keep people engaged as well, doing zoom calls for exercise circuits, virtual pub quizzes and the likes. Now restrictions have lifted for them, they've done a really good job of safely resuming activity, keeping numbers low but maintaining the club atmosphere that was here before.

Large library and other learning zones available. Each department also has its own smaller study spaces which are regularly cleaned. laptops can be borrowed without charge from the library and we get lots of emails about options for use of other services

Colleges offer wellbeing drop-in sessions and get weekly emails about other services to help support. Not been used personally so can't speak for their quality if needed, but they are still widely publiced

Under COVID restrictions, all lectures are pre-recorded and two are posted weekly. There is an hour live session for each module weekly for questions, examples and tutorial sessions, labs are a mixture of virtual and in person depending on the hardware needed to complete. For dissertation projects, there is a 30 minute meeting weekly to check on progress
