Safe city, good support, amazing facilities for engineering. Great people. Very hilly, strike action and protests against military is very annoying.

My course is truly brilliant, providing everything I'd hoped for and more. With knowledgable tutors/lecturers, many opportunities to apply theory via hands-on lab work, and a wide network of support, there is not much to fault it on. The facilities here are phenomenal, from the Diamond and its abundance of labs and state-of-the-art equipment, to the Engineering Heartspace, and the surrounding complex of lecture theatres and seminar rooms. In addition, the student's union regularly holds events and fairs, and houses an array of shops of dining facilities. The huge number of societies means there is something for everyone too, and always something going on. Sport Sheffield is great too, with a kitted-out gym and regular fitness classes. Endcliffe accommodation is of reasonable quality, and The Edge and Hub are always running events to get involved in. It is difficult to pinpoint any 'worst' aspects.

My course is intensive by nature, but the mixture of lectures, tutorials and labs makes the long-contact-hour week go by relatively quickly. All my tutors are very knowledgeable in their respective fields, and one can tell that a lot of thought has gone into the structure of the course. In addition, there is constant evaluation of the course's strengths and areas for improvement, with many opportunities for us students to voice our opinions... and these opinions get acted on. The teaching is 100% face-to-face, which is great for such a hands-on course, and the labs give us a chance to apply the theory we learn in lectures to practical situations. The vast array of facilities in The Diamond allows us to do this, and the format of pre-lab and post-lab activities works well in my opinion.

I love the community here in Endcliffe, there is always plenty of activity and something going on at The Edge or Hub. Residence life runs many events for us students to get involved with, and these were particularly helpful when getting to know people in the first semester. My house is a big one; I'm sharing with 18 other people. This has its pros and cons. On the one hand there's a great 'vibe' to the house, and the vast mix of people mean I've made many friends. Also, I'm only sharing a bathroom with one other person, which is quite nice. On the other hand, it can get crowded at times in the kitchens and communal areas, and there isn't enough fridge and cupboard space. Also, everyone being on different schedules means some are very disruptive at times of the day and days of the week when other's want to sleep or work. But this is a fact of uni life, especially in first year, so I expected this to be the case. Unfortunately with it being an old house, many things are a bit worn out. Things are prone to breaking (for example the hot water, or rather lack-of, which has been a big issue in recent weeks). The maintenance team are sometimes quick to address these problems, and sometimes not at all. Overall though, Endcliffe student village is a great place to live, and I am so glad to have picked this as where to stay during first year.
